Who’s Who?

AngelmanUK is a United Kingdom-based support group. The trustees are all volunteers with direct experience of Angelman Syndrome either as parents or relatives of children or adults with AS. We also have a panel of experts who are able to answer and advise on more complex questions. Many of these experts are recognised worldwide in their fields of expertise relating to Angelman Syndrome.

Gareth Edwards, the award winning British director and special effects artist is AngelmanUK’s patron. Gareth, from Nuneaton, has first hand experience of Angelman Syndrome as his niece, Ella, has the condition. He has also seen the work that AngelmanUK does first-hand having attended both Central region meetings and our national conference with his family. Gareth first gained widespread recognition for Monsters (2010), an independent film in which he served as writer, director, cinematographer, and visual effects artist. He subsequently directed the 2014 reboot of Godzilla, and the hugely successful film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), the first in the Star Wars Anthology.

Rachel is Chairperson at AngelmanUK. She lives in North Wales and is a stay at home mum. Rachel has 4 children – Alex, James (AS del+ born 2001), Zac and Beth. rachel.martin@angelmanuk.org

Diane has been a trustee since 2015 taking over from her husband Christyan. Diane oversees the charity’s website, shop, media output and videos. She lives in Surrey with Christyan and son, Milo 17. Their son, Harvey (AS born 1998) has just moved away from home to live in a house nearby with 2:1 live in support. Emma lives in North Essex with her husband Andrew. Their son William (AS del+) was born in 2016, they also have a baby. Emma works full time in London and is our trustee responsible for Social Media Support with a special interest in helping newly diagnosed families, much of which is done while commuting. emma.goodson@angelmanuk.org

Hi, my name is Sian and I have a younger brother, Gareth who is 22 with AS. I finished my degree last year in Product Design and have now moved to the South East of England with my boyfriend Jack, who Gareth absolutely loves! I still go home to visit my family as much as possible, but now Gareth is used to me not living there he usually just waves at me - his way of telling me to leave again! I work as a Nanny but try to use any spare time to work on my design portfolio. Other than that I'm usually found socialising with friends.

I hope that my experience of growing up with Gareth and going through the transition into adulthood will help me to support others in my new role as the sibling support trustee and I look forward to getting to know everyone. sian.allen@angelmanuk.org

Dan became a trustee in July 2020, a time when we had no other male trustees. He wasn’t sure how he would be able to help but wanted to give back to the community that has been so useful and supportive. Dan assists with supporting dads and anything else he can get involved with, including being active on our social media and helping out with the technical side of things. Alex became a trustee in 2022. She lives in Bolton with her two young children Benjamin and Tobias. Alex is taking on the role of secretary and will also be working with Sian Allen to support siblings. Alex grew up as the oldest sister of James (AS), Zac and Beth as well as being the daughter of a busy trustee. She is very aware of the needs of siblings and hopes to use her skills and interests to help develop the role of sibling support. alex.edgar@angelmanuk.org

Katie is our Science and Research Officer and acts as AngelmanUK’s Principal Scientific advisor, and leads the charity’s collaboration with - and currently sits on the Board of - the Angelman Syndrome Alliance (ASA). She is a Biochemist (BSc) with a PhD in Structural Biology (CryoEM), and works for Diamond Light Source, the UK’s Synchrotron and national Electron Microscope Facility. With PhD student Emma Cowan, Katie is working on a project to determine the structure of UBE3A and associated proteins. Katie lives in Hampshire with husband David and three children: Ruby (AS del+ born 2007), Finley and Amber.

Richard lives in Surrey with his wife Larisa, son Matthew (AS, born 2009) and a very supportive and loving younger daughter Petra. Richard has been a GP in Surrey for just over 20 years. As well as his clinical work, he is very involved in organisational leadership and pathway redesign in the NHS. The ambition is always to create services that are easier for patients to navigate, but also free up clinicians to focus on their patients. richard.strickland@angelmanuk.org

Ben specialises in infectious diseases and adult medicine and is a researcher on viral/bacterial genetics. As you can imagine he has been very busy over the last few years! He lives near Cambridge with his wife Claire and children (his daughter, Tess, has AS). Despite being so busy Ben volunteered to come on board to help us in a professional capacity and he joins Dan, Richard and Christyan in our team of superdads! ben.warne@angelmanuk.org

Souzie is our ‘Family Champion’ from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). She has been based in Dubai for nearly fifteen years with her husband and two children. Souzie is an AngelmanUK Community Ambassador in
he UAE and ASF Family Champion for the region. She offers support and guidance to newly diagnosed and long established Angelman families, and introduces them to the regional and global Angelman community. Souzie liaises with government bodies and commercial entities to raise awareness of Angelman Syndrome and the challenges it can present. souzie.mackay@yahoo.com

Kate Pickering is a former trustee and lives in Rutland with her husband Jeremy, 2 cats and a dog. Kates daughter Livvy (AS) is 22 and will shortly be moving into a long term placement after her time at residential college ends. Livvy has 2 older siblings, Hannah and Will. Kate, currently runs the ASUK phone line.

Christyan was a Trustee from 2009-2016 and is now acting as our media consultant. He's an illustrator, author, designer, animator and all-round-creative-type. Christyan is married to (Trustee) Diane Fox-Jones and they have three children: Lottie (who co-makes AngelmanUK's videos with Molly Brown), Harvey (AS del+ born 1998) and Milo. christyan@christyanfox.co.uk

Multi award winning creative artist and filmmaker, Lottie Fox-Jones, has made a series of films for AngelmanUK with Molly Brown. Lottie gained a first in Illustration and Animation at Kingston University and has worked on TV productions for the BBC as well as television adverts, she also teaches film making. Lottie specialises in socially aware projects and won double gold in the Creative Conscience Awards. Lottie lives in East London. lottiefjones@gmail.com

Multi award winning filmmaker and creative designer, Molly Brown, is Director of film production and design company, See Speak Hear. Molly founded the company in 2012 after graduating with a degree in Graphic Art and Design, specialising in film and animation. Molly has a particular interest in working on projects that have a socially aware core and strives to constructively promote positive change in all areas of her work. Molly lives in South West London.
